Story

She said…He said…
Erin’s story starts a few years after Miles’s story. Sure, I always had fun when I ran into Miles at our friends’ parties, but that’s not when my love story started. My story started on a Saturday night at my favorite sushi restaurant. I was having dinner with Miles. I didn’t know what to expect. It was the first time I had spent time with just Miles, so I wasn’t sure if it was a date or just friends having dinner. 6 short hours later, I finally knew. After a great dinner, a stop by my friend’s annual summer party, and a long walk to the park by my place, Miles kissed me. I immediately knew I was in trouble.

For the next several weeks, I couldn’t stop thinking about Miles. We had a series of great dates, each getting longer and longer. I remember one Sunday night that was just a normal night with dinner and a nice walk by the river. For me, it was a turning point for me. I knew I would never be able to leave Miles. I felt like home being with him. I turned my claddagh ring around that night.

Then, on August 14, I left him to go on a trip to Mexico with some of my girlfriends. He also left that day for a 20 day trip to Africa. I remember saying to my friends on that trip that I needed to know what type of flowers were at our resort because I’d be planning a wedding soon. I knew I was in love, and they knew it too. When we both got back from our trips, we were both relieved to know that we still wanted to be together. On our 3 month anniversary, we said, “I love you” and it’s continued to be more and more magical every day.

Miles’s story starts at a game night over three years ago. I found myself arguing with a cute red head who for some reason kept guessing the same answers as me and as a result canceling my points. Over the following two and a half years, I would run into Erin at various parties from birthdays to election parties and each time I found myself talking to her. I never thought she was interested in me or that a relationship would ever work.

All of this changed last summer when with the help of a close friends nagging (Thanks Maria!) led me to spend several hours with Erin at an engagement party. Another month would pass before we found the time together and “hang out”. I found myself enjoying my time with Erin and I was always looking for the next date.

I remember being excited about a forced three week relationship break when we both had vacations scheduled. For me it meant a chance to reflect on what Erin meant to me. I was completely shocked when I found myself both missing and talking about her throughout the entire trip. I couldn’t wait to get home and spend the rest of my life with Erin.

Four months later, I proposed.
